Miracle of the Cross at the Bridge of San Lorenzo was painted by Gentile Bellini.  The painting dates from 1500.  It is currently housed at Gallerie dell’Accademia.

The women at the front left are the Cyprian delegation headed by Catherine Cornaro and do not conform to Venetian styles of dress for the time.  She came back to Venice in 1489 but the painting reflects a historical moment from earlier.

The kneeling woman in the foreground has an off-the-shoulder neckline on her gold underdress.  The decoration on the underdress appears to be a necklace or pendant that is sewn or pinned in place.  Her overdress is of a very finely pleated style and has capped sleeves that come down over the shoulder.  The ornamentation of the overdress is done in pearls in two styles.  There is triangular pleat work with pearls at the tips and along the neckline, there are pearls at intervals appearing to cinch down piping.  She wears a very fine cord belt at the high waist.  Her sleeves are tied with ornamented gold cords at the shoulder.  They have a large arc for the elbow.  The sleeve is trimmed along the opening with embroidered trim with triangles or pleat work.  The body linen clearly shows an insertion seam with lace and gold decorations along the sides of the seam.  The cuffs appear to have needle lace at the wrist.  She is wearing her hair down with a band at the forehead indicating an unmarried status.  She still has a frame of curls around her face.
